Easter Bunny Nutter Butter Cookies

Easter is only a month away so I am going to re-share an oldie but a goodie.  Back in 2012, I first shared how to make these fun Easter cookies. You can see the original post here.

I had bought the Nutter Butter cookies on sale, and when I saw I had a few other supplies (flat marshmallows, white Wilton candies and heart sprinkles, I decided to surprise my kids with the bunny cookies.

Hmm, my photos in 2012 were not the greatest.  I remember using a small digital camera. It was night, and without a lot of light in my kitchen, which is why these pictures are on the dark side.  While the photos are not high quality, you can see how I put together the ears.  I had experimented with a couple of different cookie cutters, and settled on this mini oval/egg shape for the ears. Once I cut out the shape, I pinched  together the marshmallow to make the ears a bit thinner.

I melted the Wilton candy melts in the microwave, and covered each of the cookies in the chocolate.

I placed the cookies on a cookie sheet covered in wax paper. I then attached the marshmallow ears, and heart nose before the candy melt hardened. Using a small squeeze bottle, I drew on the eyes and mouth. I had used a pink food marker for the inside of the ears.

The peanut butter in the Nutter Butters, and the white chocolate covering on the bunny was a delicious combination.  I know my kids loved it, and these bunnies disappeared quickly.

I may have to make some again soon.

Candy Crush Cookies

Easy Candy Crush Chocolate Bomb Cookies

I am a Candy Crush addict.  I have been playing the game for a couple of years now.  I find myself playing a least a few games every single day.  I am on level 820. I have a few friends that are a few hundred games further than me.  Sometimes it takes me awhile to beat a level because I refuse to pay for gold bars or extra boosters.  One of my favorite boosters is the candy bombs. If you have a Candy Crush themed party, you will want to make some sort of candy bomb treats.. I have seen some cake pop candy bombs, but if you prefer an even easy way, these Candy Crush Cookies might be right up your alley.

Disclosure, this post contains an affiliate link.

You could use any round type cookie, but I chose vanilla wafers. I think I got these at the either the dollar store or Aldis.  I know I used them as tired in my recent Candy Race Cars post. Candy bombs have a darker look to them so I chose a dark chocolate.  I had recently bought Wilton Dark Cocoa Mint and thought it would be the perfect choice. I also used Wilton Sprinkles that I bought at the craft store with a coupon.

I melted some of the Wilton chocolate in a glass bowl in the microwave using the 30 second method.  Basically that is you heat the chocolate in 30 second increments stirring each time. It only took a little under a minute.  I dipped the wafers in the chocolate and then dropped the sprinkles on.  If you would really like to, you could use a small tool and line up the sprinkles in a more precise manner, but I just do not have the patience. In the game. the bombs are covered with quite a few sprinkles in a random manner.  I thought the cookies looked a little better with a little less sprinkles.

One thing that I really like about these super easy cookies is they taste a bit like Thin Mints with the dark cocoa mint chocolate, on the crunchy wafer cookie.  At least one of my girls has sold Girl Scout cookies for the last 13 years, so I really know my Thin Mints..  This could be one way to get your Thin Mint fix when the real things are not in season

As an experiment I put two of the wafers back to back before dipping them together in the chocolate. They are not quite the round bombs, but they do have a more 3D look if that is what you prefer for the candy bombs.

I found these Candy Crush Mixed Fruit Gummies at the dollar store recently.  They would make great favors for your Candy Crush party.

I also found these wrapped candies in a bag of hard candies.  While I could only find yellow and red, they look just like the wrapped candy in the game.

Norm of the North Cookies - Dare to Share Feature of the Day

Polar Bear Cookies, Norm of the North polar bear

This weekend the new family movie Norm of the North is being released.  If you have kids it may be part of your weekend plans to go see it.  Angie from The Country Chic Cottage shared at the Dare to Share party this week how to make these really cute Norm of the North  cookies. They are not that hard to make, and would be fun to make before or after the movie. Even if you do not plan on seeing the movie, polar bear cookies would be a great treat for a snow day, or zoo party.  Stop over to The Country Chic Cottage to see how to make them.

#Spread Cheer with Betty Crocker and a Giveaway

One thing that I love about this time of year is that there are so many fun ways to show your friends and family that you care about them.  I was quite excited to be asked to be part of the #SpreadCheer campaign.  My daughter and I knew the two people we wanted to surprise with a basket full of cookies. We chose two people, because it was just too hard to pick only one. We each have a good friend we wanted to share some extra cheer this holiday season. We also knew that part of the fun of the surprise was in the memories of  making of the cookie baskets  together, before we even gave them away.    We went to our local Kroger, and bought the Betty Crocker Chocolate Chip and Sugar Cookie mixes .  These mixes  are super simple to make, and great for adding extra ingredients to make our own creation.

I love marshmallows, and thought it would be fun to make a cookie that tastes a little bit like a Smore.  I added about a cup of mini marshmallows to the  chocolate chip cookie mix.  I would have added nuts or graham cracker crumbs as well, but I could not get to the store when I was baking the cookies. (You will see why in a minute)  Even with just the marshmallow and chocolate chips, the cookies turned out great with melt in your mouth yummy, gooey, goodness.

The basket was all ready to go, but we were going nowhere fast.  We ended up getting 17 inches  of snow,  and were snowed in for most of the day.

The original plan was to run to my friend Rhonda's house, and drop the basket  on her porch after school on Monday.  I found out that morning though, that her road was still very difficult to drive on, so it was time for Plan B.  She asked me if I would like to meet her for a bowl of soup at a nearby restaurant. I knew that would be the perfect time to surprise her.  When she stepped away from the table for a minute, I put the basket of cookies on the table where she had been sitting.

When she got back to the table, she was quite surprised. The basket of cookies  really made her day.  We might not have been able to leave her basket on her doorstep because of the snow storm, but this way I got to see the cheer a surprise basket of cookies could bring.

Kara decided she wanted to make Sprinkle Sugar Cookies for her best friend.  They have been best friends for four years, and probably years to come.  The sugar cookie dough was easy to make, and roll out on a baking mat.

Since she was making this basket of cookies for her friend, she did all of the prep work.  She choose the cookie cutters, and cut out cookies in various Christmas shapes. We normally frost our sugar cookies and decorate them  for Santa, but she wanted to try something different this time.

Instead of frosting, she had different types of sprinkles to the cookies before baking.

They turned out really nice, and were not as messy as the frosted kind.  These were perfect for packing into a cookie basket.

She placed them into baggies, and them put them in the basket.  She then chose a tag to use from the #SpreadCheer Printable Tags that are part of the Betty Crocker #SpreadCheer printable kit.

The basket of Sprinkle Sugar Cookies ready to be delivered. Turns out we have a plan B for this delivery too. Her best friend took an unexpected trip out of town, so we need to wait until she comes home to make our surprise delivery. It won't be very cheerful for her to come home to frozen, or soggy cookies.

Do you know someone you think might like some extra cheer this Christmas?  You are in luck, because  Betty Crocker, wants you to  help spread the cheer this year.  I will be giving away a $20 gift card to Target. It is one of my favorite stores, all over the country,  and you will find everything you need there to spread some cheer of your own.

The giveaway rules

  • Print off your coupon to save 50 cents on a package of Betty Crocker Cookie Mix

  • Make a cookie basket of your own, and post a photo on social media with the hash tag #SpreadCheer. Tag a few friends you think would like to join in on the fun. Use the printables to decorate your basket.

  • Leave a comment below on who you chose to #SpreadCheer and link back to your social media post

Are you being affected by the second Polar Vortex of the past few weeks?  The temps are dropping fast here, and will be in single digits in just a few hours.  Brrrr! It is not as cold as the last one, but it is enough to make me super tired of ice, snow and cold.    Since we feel like we are in a great white tundra, I thought it was the perfect time to feature these adorable Cinnamon Polar Bear Cookies by Krystle of  Baking Beauty  These cookies would be great to serve at a snow themed party, or just because you like cookies.  Be sure to check out Krystle's recipe on Baking Beauty here.  Thank you so much for linking up to Dare to Share!

a recipe for fruit and chocolate butter cookies

Are you cookie'd out yet?  I hope not, because these  Butter Cookies with Fruit and Chocolate by Winnie of Something Sweet.  These cookies look too good to pass up.  I also think that the ingredients Winnie used might make them a perfect treat for an upcoming holiday in mid February.  You know which one I mean.  I am still wrapping my head around the fact that it is 2014, so I am not in Valentine's Day mode quite yet. :)  If you would like to see how Winnie made her delicious looking cookies, be sure to check out Something Sweet here.   Thanks so much for linking up this great recipe on Dare to Share  Winnie!

Amaretto Chocolate Chip Cookies - Feature of the Day

There are just a few more baking days until Christmas! We are doing some of ours this weekend and upcoming week, now that school is out for break.  This delicious looking cookie by Amee of Cooking in Bliss caught my eye while picking today's feature.  The combination of cranberries and white chocolate chips is what  makes this cookie sound so good.  There is a teeny tiny amount of Amaretto  in them, but  it is a small enough amount that you need not worry about these cookies getting into the little hands. To see this recipe, be sure to check out Cooking in  Bliss here.  Thanks so much for linking up to Dare to Share Amee!

Confetti Cookies - Feature of the Day

We are having a special birthday today in our house.  While this person is not  3, I am sure they would love it if I made the confetti cookies shared by Liz at Howling at the Moon.   Today my oldest daughter is Sweet 16!  How in the world did that happen?  Many people told me when my kids were little, that time goes by way too fast. I have to say I agree.   Liz's confetti cookies  are really cute and would make great for birthday parties, or a class treat.  They are so much cooler than an average cookie.  Be sure to stop by Liz's blog Howling at the Moon HERE, to see how she made them.  Thank you so much for linking up this great idea on Dare to Share.
