Christmas Tree Ball Ornament

Painted Christmas tree ornament hanging in a tree

This weekend, Kara and I brought out the Christmas crafting supplies.  Each day until Christmas, I hope to share a homemade ornament, that can easily be made at home.  A few weeks ago, I picked up several of the clear plastic ball ornaments at Michales for 50% off. They are normally 99 cents each, so we picked them up for only 49 cents on sale.  I believe I also used my 25% off entire purchase coupon at the time,  making the cost 37 cents.  Today I am going to show you how easy it is to paint a Christmas tree.

the center line of a painted Christmas tree ornament

Start the tree by painting a line on the ornament with a small, thin brush.  This line is actually on the thick side, but it's okay, it will be covered up later on.

Painting the branches of the painted Christmas tree ornament

Using a small square flat brush gently form lines of branches. The line that you painted in the last step is used as a center guide. Start at the top of the tree with a small line, and make each subsequent line a little bit wider.  You can make your tree as full or as sparse as you like.  Some of my early lines were a bit wider than intended, so I have a very full tree. It reminds me of the trees we used to chose on the Christmas tree lot as a kid.

Adding the snow to a painted Christmas tree ornament

Once the green branches have dried, use the same brush to gently dab on some snow in random places on the tree.

Adding the lights to the painted Christmas tree ornament
Add lights on the tree in your favorite colors with a tiny brush. I made a larger dot on the top of the tree to indicate a star on top.

I filled the ornament with craft snow and a little bit of glitter so it would shine with the light.
