Caramel Apple Pops and Candy Apple Pies

How to make Caramel Apple Pops, and Candy Apple Pies

I have two more treats to add to our Apple party theme.  Tonight Kara and I made Caramel Apple Pie Pops, and Mini Candy Apple Pies. I realized that my camera battery was out of charge just as I was about to take pictures of how we made our pops and pies. Don't you hate when that happens?!  I used my small other camera these photos.  While I the photos are not that great, at least I was able to get some pics.  First we made the Caramel Apple Pops.  I melted a few spoonfuls of butter in a small skillet.

Preparing the Apples for the Pops and Pies

Kara helped prepare the apples. We used my Apple Peeler/Corer/Slicer
to cut about 5 or 6 up to use in both recipes.  I love it, it sees a lot of use this time of year. It making preparing the apples so quick and easy.

Making the Baked Apple Filling

I used about two of the cut apples to make the pops.  I added the apples and about a teaspoon of cinnamon  to the butter in the skillet.

When the apples began to soften a bit, I added a couple spoonfuls of Smuckers caramel ice cream topping to the skillet.  I took the apple mixture off the burner, while I helped Kara  prepare the crust.

Using an apple cookie cutter, she cut out several apple and circle shapes.  I spooned the apple mixture on the bottom layer.  I always seems to spoon on a bit too much, because a bit of caramel leaked out of each pop.  Add the top layer and squeeze the two layers of crust together.  Make a small slit or hole in the pop to help ventilate during baking. Brush a coating of egg white  on the crust. and then bake in a 400 degree oven for about 15 minutes.  To be honest I don't know exactly how long I cooked them. I just keep checking until the the crust looked done, which was approximately 15 minutes.

Do you see the shine on the pop?  I made some powered sugar icing  (just powdered sugar and milk) and coated each of the pops with a little bit of icing.

Next up was the Mini Candy Apple Pies

I found these mini pie shells on sale, and want sure what to do with them.  I saw them in the pantry and realized they would be perfect for mini apple pies. We added some sugar and cinnamon to the apples and made sure they were all coated.  Again I don't have an exact measurement.  I cook like Rachel Ray. I just eyeball the amounts until it looks right to me.  I believe it was about a cup full of sugar and about a teaspoon of cinnamon.

Before adding the crust on top, we also added several red hot candies to the pie.  If someone does not like red hots, just leave them out of their pie.

Kara is adding the crust to one of the mini pies.

We added a small X in the middle of the pie for ventilation, and added one more red hot.   Bake in a 400 degree oven for about 20-25 minutes. I added some egg white wash before putting them in.  If the crust does not look done, when the buzzer goes off, just put them in for a couple more minutes.

The pies when they came out of the oven. The family wanted to dive right in, but I had to take a few photos first.

There you go, two more easy apple treats that are perfect to serve at a party.

Apple Themed Cookies and Pops

Hanging apple decoration made with paper honeycomb ball

It took me a bit longer today to get this posted than I would have liked.  Just as I was about to take pictures, a storm came through and I lost all of my natural light. By the time the storm was over, there was very little daylight.  I pulled out an old desk lamp, to try and give my kitchen a little more light.

This Week's Party Theme Is....

Yesterday, Kara and I did something to prepare for this week's party theme. If you look closely at this picture, you can see a small clue.

Any ideas?

We are lucky enough to live in an area abundant with apples.  We live less than 20 minutes away from three apple orchards.   It has become a family tradition to go apple picking every year since the late 1990s.  I have pictures of my kids at the same orchard since they were really little

She has grown quite a bit don't you think. This first picture was  taken  when she was only  three.  I would have to dig through all the actual photos to find the picture of when she was two.  Remember when we actually had to develop film?

We have always enjoyed taking the hayride around the orchard. When she was little she would love to sit on our laps.

Now she is definitely big enough to sit by herself.

So have your figured out this week's theme?

We are having an APPLE party!

Despicable Me Party Bags

How to make your own Despicable Me Party Bags

Despicable Me Party Bags

Did you think that I forgot about the Despicable Me Party?

Note to self, the next time you want to start  something new, do not do  it during a week with a major schedule change.  Back to school week has been kicking my behind! I am so NOT a morning person, and 6 a.m. comes way to early, especially when I am not falling asleep until about 2.  On top of the lack of sleep, when I got in the car to drive one of my kids to school Wednesday morning, I found my front right tire was completely flat. I could not drive on it all.  Luckily were are close enough to the school that she could make a run for it. (and I actually mean run)  I think she was a few minutes late, but at least she made it. I then had to find a ride for my other daughter whose school we do not live close to, so she could go to her first day.  That flat tire completely threw me off the entire day.  We got it fixed later that evening.  It seems a small piece of metal was the culprit. Today I did get a few more party ideas together that I plan to share.  I am only going to write about  the party bags in this post though, because I had lost all my good daylight and most of the other  photos are too dark.  This week, I will be continuing the Despicable Me Party posts through Saturday with all the mayhem behind the scenes this week.

Now if you are still with me, I am going to show you how easy it is to make Despicable Me Party Bags.

I found a 2 pack of yellow bags at the dollar store.  These bags are a really good size, and would be able to hold a lot of stuff.  While you can find a printable of the Minion eyes online, if you don't have a good printer or are low of ink, it is very easy to make your own.  All you need is some colored cardstock, a glue stick, and a Sharpie.

Cutting the circles for the goggles could be difficult if you don't have something to trace.   I found a great way to make paper goggles is to trace around different sizes of tape.

I cut gray/silver cardstock into a ring for the goggle (this is Stuart), a solid white circle, and a small brown circle for the eye, and a black strip for the goggle strap.

Glue on the pieces to form the eye(s) and google.  Finish off the bag by drawing on the pupil and smile with the Sharpie.  You could  also add some small marks near the top of the bag for hair if you prefer. These super cute and easy Minion bags take  only minutes to make, and will be a great addition to your party.

I will be linking this project up on these fabulous linky parties here.
