My favorite easy Christmas reindeer recipes

We are currently watching the Reindeer Games on Big Brother.  That show made me think that I have several reindeer recipes on the blog from over the years that would be be fun to revisit.

One of my favorite reindeer recipes is from when my son made these Reindeer on Rye Sandwiches for his cooking series Cooking with Kyle.

Another fun recipe was our Magic Reindeer Corn. It is so yummy for humans, or if you sprinkle some in the front yard so the reindeer stop by with Santa.

These marshmallow reindeer pops really came in handy one night when I found out the night before my daughter needed them, that she needed 35 treats for her classmates the next day.  They were easy to make and the kids loved them.

These Reeses Cup Reindeer are quick and easy to make, and quite the favorite at a holiday party.

While this is not an actual reindeer recipe, it is one of our favorite fudges to make every year. Here is our recipe for Rocky Road Fudge.  It is mix of chocolate, peanut butter, butterscotch, and marshmallow.. :)

Countdown to Christmas - Magic Reindeer Corn

I have not shared a treat in a bit, so today I am going to share one of our favorites.  Reindeer corn is easy to make, and delicious to eat.

We made it one year to leave a bag of it  for Santa's Reindeer.  It not just meant for reindeer though, but humans love it too.

In a large bowl dump in a bag of premade or homemade popcorn, mini marshmallows, M & Ms, red and green swirled chips.  We added a few gummy bears for good measure.

This reindeer was quite interested in what we were making, and approved of the recipe.

Melt  white chocolate chips and mix it throughout the the popcorn and goodies.  You can melt them on the stove or in the microwave.    I like to use the 30 second microwave method when melting my chips.  Place them in a microwave safe bowl.  Microwave for 30 seconds and stir well.  Then in 30 second increments continue to melt and stir until it is completely melted.

Once the mixture is covered in white chocolate, spread it out on a cookie sheet covered in wax paper.  Put it in the refrigerator for a few minutes to harden the chocolate.  Break into small pieces and enjoy!

You can store it in a container, but if you want to share it with others or leave for the reindeer.  I recommend putting it in treat bag when giving out to friends.

I currently have in my Etsy Shop,  Magical Reindeer Corn Treat Bag Toppers that include the recipe as a bonus. This would be a great treat for friends, neighbors, and parties.

Writing this post has made me hungry for some, I think I am going to go see if we have everything to make them now. :)

Countdown to Christmas - Reeses Cup Reindeer

I made these Reeses Cup Reindeer a few years back with my kids.  I had forgotten about them, until I was going through some old blog posts. My kids loved them!  They are easy to make, and a big hit especially with people who love Reeses Cups.

What you will need
Reeses cups - regular size
Reeses cups - mini size
Red M & Ms
small pretzels
candy eyes
a few pieces of chocolate to melt

Melt a few pieces of chocolate in a small cup to use as chocolate glue. I used four chocolate kisses and melted them in the microwave.  I started with 20 seconds, stirred, and then added a few more seconds.

Using the chocolate glue, I attached a mini Reeses cup for the snout, a red M & M for the nose, and two candy eyes.  I left the wrapper on  during this step to minimize the melting while handling the chocolate

Remove the top of the wrapper, and use a toothpick to make two holes for the pretzel antlers.

To make the antlers, I broke the pretzels in to candy cane shapes.   I then dipped the end of the pretzels into the chocolate glue and put in the premade hole.

The Reeses Cups got a little bit soft while working with it, so I placed them in the fridge to chill for a few minutes.  We took them back out, and they quickly disappeared!

Marshmallow Reindeer

I saws these reindeer marshmallow pops thought to myself that I wanted to make them. Little did I know how soon I would have to make them.   These sweet little guys got me out of a "mom I need 40 treats by tomorrow" jam.  As I mentioned before I found out this morning that Kara was to bring in treats for her music class and she had no idea how many kids were in that class. Tonight she guessed 35 or so.  To be on the safe side, we decided to make 40 reindeer.

I had a picture of all of the plain marshmallows laid out on my other camera, but it ran out of battery.   I melted Wilton light cocoa melts using the 30 second melting method.  I melted them in the microwave, while stirring every 30 seconds  Once melted, I dipped the marshmallows in one at a time and tried to drip off the excess chocolate.

I used a red M & Msthat I got on sale recently at Meijer and yellow candy eyes that I won from Beth at Hungry Happenings.    I was very grateful to have them on hand, because I did not have time to do an edible eyeball run.  LOL!

I already had the pretzels because I planned on using them in another treat recipe.  I laid the marshmallow covered in chocolate on top of the pretzels and they attached as the chocolate hardened.

I was also grateful to have a box of 150 sandwich baggies on hand for some quick wrapping.

We placed all of the wrapped reindeer onto a large plastic platter for Kara to take to school tomorrow. She was so happy with how they turned out. She was excited about taking them to share with her classmates.  I guess seeing her happiness makes up for her not telling me until the last minute thing.  At least she gave me enough warning that she also has to bring a treat on Tuesday to her class party in her homeroom.
