Halloween Flashback- Vampire Pumpkin

The Pumpkin Gang are Back

If you are a newer follower, you might not know about my pumpkin gang that I designed last year  using dollar store pumpkins.  Even though it is still August  and I am  NOT thinking about Halloween yet,  I am posting this because you need to start watching for the dollar store pumpkins NOW. The last time I was in the dollar store they were adding their fall line, and these pumpkins sell out fast.

I plan on adding to the pumpkin gang this year, and have a few ideas.  Here are the links to my old posts, so you can see how to make  last year's pumpkins.

I actually used a white pumpkin for the Vampire that I had bought on clearance from the craft store the year before. I wasn't sure what to do with it, until I saw a Vampire party in a magazine.   I really like Vampy, and I am partial to him.   You can see how to make him, HERE.

The next pumpkin I made was the Mummy.   His eyes, gauze and pipe cleaners are also from the dollar store.    You can see how to make Mr. Mummy HERE.

Frankenpumpkin was the next one to join the gang.  He was pretty simple to make with just paint and google eyes.  You can see how to make Frankenpumpkin HERE.

 Another one of our favorites was our black cat. There are a couple of ways you can make black depending on how you want him to looks.   With his big eyes and white whiskers, he is definitely on the cute side.

If you add black felt eyelids and black pipecleaner whiskers (which I did not have or they so would have been on his face), he has a different look.   You can see how I made the black cat HERE.

The last on to join the gang was Witchipoo.  Her hair is made from a boa that I also bought at the dollar store.  I used some scrap felt for her hat, and some painted clay for her nose. You can see how to make her HERE.

Vampire Pumpkin

Vampire Pumpkin 

I made this Vampire Pumpkin last year after I saw a version of it in All You.   It was cute, easy, and under $5 to make.

The bought the mini white pumpkin from Michaels when it was on sale for 50% off.   The price last year was $3.98. 

The eyes were large black brads that I had in my scrapbooking stock.  If you do not have brads or would prefer not to use them, you could use, paper, paint or buttons.    The eyebrows and fangs (hard to see in pic) were cut from leftover poster board.  The mouth was red embroidery thread, but it could easily been drawn on with marker or paint.

The All You version made the cape from paper. I planned on using this pumpkin year after year, and paper was not sturdy enough for me.  I decided to make the cape out of felt instead of paper.  Since I used the smallest size pumpkin, I was able to use a .29 piece of felt for the cape. . If you try to make a Vampire pumpkin with a larger size pumpkin, you will need more.     I folded over the felt on one of the longer sides about an inch and tacked it down with a couple of stitches on each end. 

I had some left over red felt in my fabric stash.  I cut a piece that was smaller than the black on all sides.    It does not need to be perfect,  because this is the inside of the cape and will be only partially visible.  Tack down the red with glue or stitches in each of the corners.

I attached the cape with small black brads.   As a finishing touch, I used a red marker to add a few drops of blood near his fangs.

Update: if you would like to use Dollar Tree craft foam pumpkins in this craft, they are now available on DollarTree.com.  They come in orange and white, and in smaller quantities.
