Garden Parties and Flower Cupcakes

This weekend it is the birthday of my son and one of my best friends.  Over the years I have thrown them parties and made them special treats.  There are no big parties planned this year, but I do have a few treats in the works.  In honor of their big day, I thought I would re-share some party ideas I have done in the past starting with my friends big birthday.

Garden Party Table, Flower Pot Favors

When my friend hit a milestone birthday a few years ago, I planned the party.  I did not want to make fun of her age, because I am a couple of years younger than her. I knew that if I was nice to her, she would be nice to me when the time came. (which will be this year!)   We kind of had a duel theme, which was a Garden Party and Spring Chick.  (she was not old, but still a spring chicken!)

On the main table we had a pretty vase filed with flower and mini Flower Pot Favors filled with candy.  I had found these mini pots at the dollar store in packages of 3 for $1.

We also made several Flower Topiaries to decorate the party area.  They were a perfect fit for our Garden Party theme.  Notice there is also a little chick in the picture.

I had made a Cupcake Stand using candlesticks and plates from the dollar store to hold the Spring Chick cupcakes.

Flower Cupcakes with Gum Drop Flowers

The following year for her birthday I made her these Flower Cupcakes.  They turned out so pretty and would also make a great gift for Mother's Day coming up in a few days.

This year she would like me to make something with chocolate and cherry.  I am not sure exactly what I am making yet, but look for it very soon!

Chrysanthemum Cake Pops - Feature of the Day

Today's feature is one that you can have fun making and eating.  Teri from The Freshman Cook shared a tutorial on how to make Chrysanthemum Cake Pops, which are a mix of cake, chocolate, nuts and popcorn. Yum!  I love the mix of sweet and salty together.  These would be great to serve at a garden party, baby shower, or  just because. Thank you so much Teri for sharing your yummy cake pops on Dare to Share!

Flower Power

This afternoon Kara attended a birthday party held at a local flower shop.   We arrived in the middle of a thunderstorm which was quite an adventure, but once inside we had  very nice time.  Each of the children  were given a flower pot, foam, and several flowers to make thier own flower arrangements.

Kara decided to  try and use one of every flower.  Once the flowers were added, they were also given accessories such as butterflies, birds, glitter picks and more.

Kara spent at least an hour trying to decide which bird she wanted for her arrangement.  She really could not decide what she wanted to do.  Finally at the end of the party, she asked if she could buy the other 2 since they were only supposed to have 1 bird each.  The sweet woman who owned the flower shop told her that she could have all 3 since she knew how hard it been for her to decide.   I hope she is not always this indecisive. LOL!  I love how her arrangement turned out.  Several people told her she did a great job with her arrangement, so who knows she might now have another creative passion.

Most of children who attended the party were in the 10 yr old range, who thought the flower arranging was a lot of fun.   Their craft and take home gift was their flower arrangements.   Flower Power could be a great theme for an older child, teen or even a mom get together.
