One of the desserts we had at the Butterfly Party were these Butterfly Cake Rolls.   Originally I had planned on adding wings to Twinkies, but when I got to the store I found that the Swiss Cake Rolls were on sale a lot cheaper. I also thought that the chocolate covering would go really well with my attempt at Monarch butterflies.
The easiest way to make chocolate butterfly wings is to draw a template on a piece of white paper and place a layer of wax paper on top of it.
This was my first attempt at making chocolate wings.  I melted Wilton Candy melts in a plastic bag 10 seconds at a time.  I think I might have cut the corner a little bigger than I would have preferred because the candy came out a little gloppy.  I did get the basic shape of wings
though, and I knew the girls at the party would not mind that they were not perfect.
I filled in the wings with orange candy melts.  The candy begins to set very quickly so you need not to work fast.  I was not fast enough to blend the chocolate into the orange.  I also used the chocolate to make the butterfly antennae.
I laid the wings and antennae on top of the cake roll, and added some reheated chocolate top to form the body.  You might need to add a small bit of chocolate under the wings to get them to stay in place.
The girls loved them even though they were a little messy.  Kara's only suggestion was that I use chocolate chips next time since she thinks they tastes a little bit better than Wilton candy melts.  You can make these butterflies with any type of melted chocolate, so I think I will give it a try.

So cute!
