Crafting With Kara - Hanging Rainbow Flower

Hanging Rainbow Flower made from cardboard tubes

Recently Kara was assigned a recycling project in school.  The object was to make something out of recycled items and use as many pieces as you could. She decided to make this colorful flower which was made with over 50 pieces.

Cutting TP tubes in 1 inch pieces

Since we collect empty toilet paper rolls for crafts, we had quite a few that she could use.  She thought it would be fun to make an extra large flower that she could use as a decoration in her room or for her upcoming birthday party. She started by cutting 1" pieces from the rolls.

She started the design by making the center flower first.

She then built more colors around it..

until she had all the colors in the rainbow.

Gluing together the hanging rainbow flower

Using a hot glue gun, she glued all the pieces together one by one.

It really didn't take that long.  She did one color at a time to make sure they lined up correctly.

In addition to making this colorful flower, she also took almost all of the picture. She liked to take a lot of side views, because you could really see the colors.

In the next few months, I am going to need to collect a lot of toilet paper tubes.  We have decided that we are going to have hanging rainbow flowers at this year's birthday party.

    1. She made it completely by herself. I even allowed her to use the glue gun this time by herself and she didnt burn herself..(unlike me, who manages to burn myself almost every time.. LOL)
