Dare to Share Features #182

I promised during the last  Dare to Share Party that I would be sharing features from party #182 and #183.  Sorry to be a little late, but things did get a bit hectic this weekend. There was a bit of happy news, and some sad news. I started to share about it, but this post is about the features.  Look for another post this week with news on what has been happening.

Frozen Party Food, Games, and Activities

We are now to number 1.  Any guesses??  

Elsa's Ice Candy

Elsa's Ice Candy was by far the most popular post on my blog this year. In fact, it is the number one most viewed post of my entire blog.  2014 was definitely the year of Frozen, as every one of my Frozen Party posts made the top 10.   My Lego Movie posts were pretty popular too, so I am happy that a sequel is in the works.   While my Despicable Me posts are still doing quite well, I did not count them in this countdown since they were from 2013.  It makes me very excited though,  that with the new Minions movie coming up next summer, many of those posts will be even more popular in the new year.

Olaf Pumpkin

This year with the Frozen craze, I knew I wanted to add Olaf to the pumpkin gang.  At first I was just going to make his head, but he just did not look finished that way.  I added a couple more pumpkins and he looked like a snowman.

I painted three dollar store pumpkins white. Olaf does have a head and might look good with a taller pumpkin on top, but I did not find one that looked right at the craft store.   I left the stem on one pumpkin, and removed it from the other two pumpkins. The stem is removed so that the pumpkins stack properly. 

I stacked the pumpkins, and hot glued them together.  You will need to use a generous amount of glue or they may come apart. (I found out the hard way) 

I used Model Magic to make the nose.  It like that is is easy to sculpt and is still very light when it dries.  You can use either orange Model Magic if you can find it.  If you can't, you can do what I did.  I just made the nose in white and then painted it orange.  

I used hot glue to add his nose, and his eyes.  I added a circle of blue cardstock behind his eyes, because in all of his pictures there is some  blue.  

I was not sure what to use for his mouth. I ended up using black cardstock because it was easy to change.  You could also use black craft foam or paint if you prefer.  I used brown pipe cleaners for his twig hair and eyebrows.  I thought I had dark brown in my stash.  I could not find it though so I used regular brown.  I might pick up some up the next time I go to the craft store, and make them a bit darker.  

I also added a his twig arms. They were very easy to attach with no glue needed.  Just make a toothpick size hole where you want to add the pipe cleaner, and it will go right in.   

Olaf loved his photo shoot with the pumpkins on our porch, he could not stop smiling. 

Update-  The pumpkins I used to make Olaf are now available online at DollarTree.com.  They come in both orange and white and available in smaller quanities.

How to Make a Frozen Wand - Feature of the Day

With the popularity of Frozen, you can expect there  to be a lot of Elsa's and Anna's this Halloween.   Crystal from Make it Easy Crafts shared how to make a Snowflake Wand that would be perfect for a snow queen or even a princess.  And if you did not already hear the news, Disney announced this week that they are making a new Frozen short,  so you can expect that your little girl will love to have a Frozen Wand for quite some time to come.  Thank you so much Crystal  for linking up this great craft to Dare to Share.
