Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, Party in a Box

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs Party in a Box

If you have had the chance to see  Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, then you will know what the blue box is in the picture. During the movie, there is a running joke of a Party in a Box.  It is another one of Flint's inventions that went awry.  When the button is pushed, the box explodes, and whoever is near the box is covered head to toe in rainbow colored paint.   While kids might think being covered in colored paint would be fun,  I made a much safer and cleaner version of the Party in a Box.

I filled mine with rainbow Skittles.   It is very easy to make your own Party in a Box.  I picked up a pack of mini plastic containers at the dollar store.  In the movie, the box is blue, so I painted the box..  I might have painted it a shade or two darker, but I did not have a darker color blue in my paint stash.  I need to use  two coats of paint.  Since you are painting the outside of the box, you will also need a coat of varnish or sealant because untreated paint will scratch easily.  The red button is just a cap  from a 2 liter of Coke.  If collect Coke rewards be sure to write down the code, or use a cap that has already had it's code entered. I attached it with a little bit of hot glue with my glue gun.

Another option for the Party in a Box,  if you prefer not to use Skittles, would be to fill the box with rainbow colored confetti. This would be a good activity to do outside, because the rainbow confetti would be sure to make a mess.  I would love to hear from you if you are brave enough to use the confetti!

  1. I have not seen that movie yet, but I would love to. I saw the first one and thought it was so cute! I love this little box and can see where the children would love it too!
