Scarecrow and Crow Pumpkins

How to make scarecrow and crow pumpkins
Scarecrow and Crow

If you have been reading my blog for awhile, you might know that each year I try to add more pumpkins to my Pumpkin Gang.   Since we are having Scarecrow Party week, I thought it would be fun to add a scarecrow and a crow.

I started with basic dollar store pumpkins. I painted one black, and the other tan.

The crow was pretty easy to  make. First  I glued on some google eyes. I then added a  craft foam beak and wings. The finishing touch was the feathers for the tail.

It was then time for Mr. Scarecrow. I chose my largest size google eyes.  Whenever I look at scarecrow decorations, they seem to have nice big eyes.   I painted on a nose.  I could not decide if I should add a felt nose or not, but if I change my mind I can easily do it later.   I used a Sharpie to draw on the smile, and some watered down red paint for the cheeks.

I did not have a small straw hat to use, so I had to make my own hat.  I did have some burlap in my craft stash, so I decided to try that.  I cut two pieces of burlap in a half circle shape. I made sure they were wide enough that they would fit on top of the pumpkin.   I then did a quick whip stitch around the outside of the hat.

I had cut the hat a little large, so I had to roll it up a couple of times to get a good fit.

I found it was easier to add the raffia AFTER the hat was in place.  I just stuffed it in under the hat.

I felt that the hat needed something a little bit extra, so I glued on a sunflower for a pop of color.

I think they make nice additions to the pumpkin gang, and would make great decorations for a scarecrow themed party.

Updated: The Dollar Tree pumpkins that I used in this craft are now available online at DollarTree.com.  They now come in orange and white, and in smaller quantities.

    1. I am glad to hear you like the hat.. It was kind of a pain to make because I cut it too big..It actually worked out though, because all I had to do was roll it a few times to get it to fit. :)

    1. Thanks Kathe.. We have real crows nearby who make a lot of noise, so I like that mine stays really quiet.. I will be a little bummed when I have to pack the scarecrow away in a few weeks..
