Crabby Sandwiches

Crabby Chicken Sandwiches for Beach Party

I based our crabby sandwiches on the one I found in Family Fun.  While the one in the magazine looks picture perfect,  this is a real life made in a hurry because the party is about to start version.. :)

I found the crossiants at Meijer the day before the party. They were the perfect size for the sandwiches.   They were not as long and softer than the magazine version, but still worked out well.  I sliced the crossiants about 2/3 of the way through, and filled with homemade chicken salad. (sorry no pic of this step)

The claws are not the prettiest because I was in a hurry to get everything done before the party.   I used a red pepper, and cut triangles into claw shapes.  In the Family Fun version it said to snip the ends of the crossiant, and slid the claw in. This did not  work for  me, so  I used toothpicks instead.

To make the eyes, I  rolled cream cheese into balls, and insert a toothpick.  This did make nice eyes but it is bit soft so it does slip a bit.

I added  black olive slices on to the cream cheese eyes, and baby carrot sticks into the back for legs.

In the magazine they used a radish slice for a mouth.  I did not buy a radish, and was realisic enough to know that very few kids would even touch one.   I decided to leave the mouth off. They were still very cute and perfect for our beach party.
