I am excited to bring you today's craft. I had a vision of a Pringles Can Scarecrow in my head for awhile. Then when I made it, it turned out even better than I had imagined it.
Start with an ordinary Pringles can or other long thing container.
Using construction paper or cardstock, color block the scarecrows face, shirt and pants.
Using markers and scraps of paper add his face. I added a dot of white paper with a toothpick after this picture.
Oops! I forgot to take pictures of how I made the arms while I was making him. Cut a strip of paper about 4-5 inches long, and whatever width you want the arms to be. I think mine is about 3/4 of an inch. Fold over a 1/2 to inch of the paper on one end. This is what you will use to attach the arm to the body. I was able to get it to stick with just a glue stick.
I use thin strips of paper that matched the pants to make the straps of the overalls. I also added a few patches and a string belt.
The hardest part of the scarecrow is making his paper hat. I taped on some raffia to the top of the Pringles can. The tape will be hidden under the hat. You might be wondering what is on the top of his head. I balled up a page of an old ad, and taped it to his head. Hats don't really fit very well on flat heads. :) I wanted to give his head some shape and dimension.
I had Kara help me with this next step. I cut a circle out of a thin piece of brown construction paper. (A paper lunch bag would also work well for his hat) While she was holding it, I wrapped a small piece of string around his head, and tied in place.
I tied the knot on the back side of his hat, and then trimmed the excess string.
There he is! I folded up the paper over the string, and made the brim of the hat.
For the finishing touch, I added a felt flower sticker that I had in my craft stash. He would be a good children's craft, or centerpiece.
I will be linking my Pringles Can Scarecrow on these fabulous linky parties here.
How clever is that?! I love it! Great job!

DeleteSuper cute! Scarecrows are on my mind right now, but not because of Fall - they immediately remind me of the new Chipotle commercial - have you seen it? Its crazy good!
ReplyDeleteNo I have not seen it. We don't have one in my town. (I just did a search.. LOL) The ones semi close are all 30-60 minutes away. I will keep my eye out for it.
DeleteSo apparently Facebook doesn't always notify you when someone tags your FB page, so I thought I would let you know that I shared this with my FB fans :) https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153278624530217&set=a.353593675216.349539.323548680216&type=1
