Homemade Hamster Treats

In addition to our 3 cats, 3 lizard types (a bearded dragon and 2 salamanders), hedgehog and turtle,  Kara also has an adorable hamster named Sonic.   She named him Sonic, because he is a robo drawf hamster who loves to run fast.  He runs so fast on his wheel, you can not see his legs. (think Usain Bolt in a small furry form)

Recently Kara has been watching a lot of You Tube videos about hamsters.  After watching a few, she decided to try to make her own homemade hamster treats.

You will need hamster food mix, and either syrup or honey.  She is using a sugar free version of syrup.  She also is using a small cookie cutter to use as a mold.

She added some of the food into a small bowl.  She guesstimated on how much food she would need to fit into her mold.

She mixed in a little bit of syrup.  Not a lot, just enough to make the food sticky.

She started to fill the mold with the covered food.

She added just a teeny bit of honey. Hamsters love honey.  You need to be careful not to give your hamster too much.

She placed it in the freezer for 30 mins, and then flipped it over and put it back in for 30 more minutes.  You want the treat to be hardened, but not turned into an icicle.

She also made a hamster treat heart.

Want to see how he liked it?!   Watch this movie Kara shot..

  1. That's such an awesome idea. You may want to check with your vet about using sugar free syrup as it can have a bad effect. I know that the additives used in sugar free products can be toxic to dogs and cats. Not sure about Hamsters and the like. Still and all great idea!
